The Czech Congregation of Dominican Sisters
History - the origins
The Czech Congregation of Dominican Sisters came into being in Olomouc-Řepčín, with the help of the Dominican Fathers in Olomouc, and to the wish of several women members of the Third Order. These women devoted themselves wholeheartedly to this foundation, giving all they had to it. The Dominican Fathers in Olomouc saw to it that the women got their religious formation in the monastery of the Dominican Sisters in Gleisdorf, Styria. They returned from there with their first superior, a sister of the Gleisdorf monastery, M. Rajmunda Jindrová who was of Czech origin. The day of their arrival, September 12th, 1889, we commemorate as the date of origin of our Congregation. We honour Mother Rajmunda as our founder, since she put much suffering, the example of her virtues, and heroic charity into this work, and so she is our example and encouragement.
The Congregation was affiliated to the Order of St. Dominic by Master of the Order, bl. Hyacinth Maria Cormier, on February 4th, 1908. The sisters invoke St. Zdislava as a special Patron Saint of the Congregation. They wish to be faithful to the contemplative and active way of life in the spirit of the charism of St. Dominic, by their love of Truth, deepening their knowledge of the Divine truths, and handing them on to others (contemplata aliis tradere).
